San Diego is a vibrant city, full of amazing restaurants of all types. Whether you’re craving tasty tacos, ooey-gooey mac and cheese, or a crispy plate of wings, here at Nextbite, we’ve got you covered with the best takeout and delivery restaurants in all of San Diego.

Beautiful, sunny San Diego is a coastal haven that borders Mexico–home to some of the freshest cuisine in the world. Because of San Diego’s unique geographical location, it has become home to a food scene that is influenced by Baja cuisine, seafood plucked straight from the ocean, and laid-back SoCal beach vibes. When ordering food in San Diego, it’s almost impossible to go wrong, but the number of options can be overwhelming. That’s why we have brought the best of the best together, all in one place.

In 2020, the popularity of to-go and delivery food skyrocketed. Not all restaurants offered takeout or delivery options, but with the growing demand for quick takeout food, most restaurants have been forced to take their delivery game to the next level. However, not all takeout is created equal–that’s why we have created this list. Just sit back, get all cozy, and take a bite!

Pot Pie Co.

If you are spending a cozy night in, nothing is quite as comforting as pie. Both savory pot pies and sweet dessert pies are the perfect addition to any snuggle fest. Pot Pie Co. in San Diego is serving up some yummy pies, all encased in a perfect, buttery, flaky crust.

Our favorite savory pie is their Classic Chicken Pot Pie. It is hot, creamy, and delicious with tender chicken and a divine, buttery crust. When it comes to dessert, we can’t live without their Salted Caramel Apple Pie. This pie has three different types of apples, orange zest, spices, and is topped with an old-fashioned oat crumble and a house-made salted caramel sauce.

And the best part is… pies are ideal for delivery! The savory pies stay nice and hot and are easy to reheat if need be. If you are looking for a cozy bite, this is the place for you.

Monster Mac

Speaking of cozy foods, who’s hungry for some ooey-gooey mac and cheese? Monster Mac is new to the San Diego scene, and they are delivering some of the creamiest mac and cheese we’ve ever had the pleasure of tasting. Their entire menu is made up of different creative spins on mac and cheese.

Whether you are a fancy pants truffle mac lover, a game day buffalo mac fanatic, or a classic plain ‘ole cheesy mac fan, Monster Mac has got you covered with endless cheesy options. Our favorite mac is their Street Mac. It’s a classic cheesy mac, topped with savory Mexican street corn, crumbled queso fresco, roasted peppers, and fresh cilantro. This mac really exemplifies the amazing fusion cuisine available in San Diego.

They even have crispy mac and cheese bites in two different (but equally amazing) flavors. If you’re a Hot Cheeto addict, then you have to try their Buffalo Mac & Hot Cheetos Bites. They are made of tantalizing buffalo mac, breaded with Hot Cheetos, and fried to crispy perfection. If you are looking to have a cheesy night in, Monster Mac is the delivery for you.

La Puerta

There is nothing more San Diego than a one-pound burrito. Burritos are a favorite of most Californians, especially surfers. It’s one delicious Mexican meal all wrapped up in a tortilla and perfect for take-out or delivery. La Puerta has been serving up classic SoCal Mexican cuisine for years, and we can’t get enough.

Our favorite one-pound burrito is their Surf n’ Turf Burrito. This massive burrito is stuffed with arrachera steak, shrimp, tomato,  grilled onion, poblano peppers, guacamole, cheese, and chipotle crema. If you are looking to pick up some fresh Mexican food to-go, this is the spot for you.

CraveBurger

Craving a burger? Try CraveBurger, a San Diego delivery spot that serves up an entire menu of different burger options fit for any palette. Whether you are a classic burger fan, a jalapiño spice junkie, or a fancy truffle burger connoisseur, Crave Burger has got you covered. Our favorite burger is their BBQ Burger; it’s a nice, meaty patty, topped with a hefty serving of bacon, cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and a sriracha ranch dressing that is out of this world–take that BLTs.

CraveBurger also has lots of kid-friendly options like kid-sized burgers, fries, and chicken tenders. CraveBurger is family-friendly and has speedy, reliable delivery. This is a great spot to order from after a long day of playing in the sun.

Wing Dynasty

If you are in the mood for Chinese takeout, why not opt for delicious Asian-style wings instead? The Wing Dynasty is a San Diego spot, serving up crispy wings in a variety of sauces that are mind-blowingly delicious. If you are in the mood for some outstanding wings (boneless or bone-in), then The Wing Dynasty is the spot for you.

Our favorite is their Sriracha Mango Wings. These wings have a sweet spice and savory crunch that can’t be beat. If you get them boneless, they taste similar to sweet and sour chicken…but way better.

Need something to curb the spice level? The Wing Dynasty is also serving up yummy fries that are perfectly golden, crunchy onion rings, and sweet potato tots that are crispy and delicious. In addition, they also have a side of mac and cheese so creamy you will be lost in a sea of cheesy bliss.

Toss It Up

Want something a bit healthier? Turns out, in San Diego, you can even get tasty salad delivered. San Diego’s location creates an unlimited supply of fresh produce, perfect for a bright and tasty salad. Toss It Up is the top salad delivery option with fresh ingredients and creative recipes that will have you wanting to make every day a salad day.

Our favorite salad is their Berry Spinach salad. This fresh masterpiece combines spinach, red onions, strawberries, roasted almonds, feta cheese, and a raspberry balsamic vinaigrette. This salad has the elements of all great salads. It’s fresh, sweet from the berries, tart from the feta and vinaigrette, nutty from the roasted almonds, and is good enough to eat for any meal.

The best part about Toss It Up is that you can customize any of their salads by adding protein, cheese, fruits, veggies, and other tasty bits to make the perfect salad for you. If you want a refreshing meal delivered straight to you, try Toss It Up. You won’t be disappointed.

The Grilled Cheese Society

No matter what time of day, a grilled cheese pretty much always sounds tasty. But does your grilled cheese ever leave you wanting more? Then you should try The Grilled Cheese Society. They are grilling up eight different types of grilled cheese sammies–all of which will have your taste buds dancing.

Our favorite grilled cheese option is their King Kong grilled cheese. This gooey cheese sandwich is made with pepper jack and American cheese, topped with mushrooms that are sautéed in a sambuca cream sauce, grilled onions, and Society Sauce. This sandwich is packed with umami and cheesy flavors that are ridiculously delicious. They, of course, also have a classic grilled cheese sandwich, but who could resist one of their several delicious grilled cheesy creations?

In Conclusion

No matter what you are craving, the San Diego food scene will provide it. With abundant fresh produce, endless restaurants, and unlimited culinary talent, San Diego is a hub for delicious food. Wherever you are in San Diego, you are surely surrounded by amazing food at all times. With so many different amazing take-out options, it can be difficult to choose where to order in from, but you can’t go wrong with any of these amazing spots.
